About Acorn Pack
Acorn Pack is an innovative new take on a tried-and-tested format for pregnant women and new parents in the London Borough of Hillingdon. It was founded by Jane Woodley in 2010, following her experiences of having Noughties babies in the borough.
There is a great deal of information out there, about choices regarding birth and baby care, and different classes, activities, products and services. For a newly-pregnant woman, or parents of a young baby, it can be daunting to sift through it, trying to find the relevant information. Much of the printed material is national, which can be too generalised and regularly ends up in the recycling, and local information is often piecemeal and can be difficult to locate, relying on word-of-mouth and lucky finds. For businesses, it is often prohibitively expensive to advertise, however appealing it would be for them to target such a specific audience.
Acorn Pack has been carefully designed to overcome these issues. With the encouragement and support of the Specialist Health Promotion Team at the London Borough of Hillingdon and Hillingdon Community Health (formerly Hillingdon Primary Care Trust, now part of Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust), Acorn Pack is launching as an interactive website in March 2011. In late June 2011, Acorn Pack Antenatal will be available. Collected from selected Hillingdon Children’s Centres, these will contain a magazine full of health and local information, support signposting and relevant, ethical business and service advertising, as well as useful free gifts and product samples. Acorn Pack Postnatal will be available in 2012.
Initially operating in the London Borough of Hillingdon, the aim is to build a network, under the Acorn Pack brand, of capable, like-minded people across the UK who care about good experiences for new families in their local area.
The benefits for families are clear: genuinely useful local information about all things pregnancy and baby-related in one easy-to-find and navigate location and a responsive feedback mechanism across Health and Council services.
The benefits for advertisers are clear: a tightly-defined demographic, actively seeking relevant products and services at this very specific stage of life.
